VALUES & BELIEFS
Liberty Church exists to make disciples who exalt Jesus Christ and honor God's Word in all they say and do.
(Ephesians 1:22-23; Philippians 1:20-21; John 3:30)
ONE AIM
TWO BASIC BELIEFS
We believe in the authority of Scripture and all it teaches. The Bible is the foundation for everything we say and do.
(II Timothy 3:16-17)
We believe the Gospel is life-changing and it is our job to make disciples. We're driven to share Christ with others and to train believers to follow Him.
(Matthew 28:19-20)
Every member has a unique calling.
God has a purpose for everyone.
(Ephesians 2:10)
Prayer is critical. Pray now, pray often.
Prayer is the way we stay connected with God
and it gives us the power to fulfill his purposes.
(Ephesians 6:18)
We must be guided and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
We can’t do this on our own, and we weren’t meant to.
(Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 3:14-21)
THREE CORE VALUES
FOUR DISTINCTIVES
We are a church without walls—the church is not the building. We are to live out our faith in every aspect of our lives, not just on Sundays.
We are a church committed to team leadership and small groups. We realize biblical growth is done in community.
We are a church that combines the glory of the old with the promise of the new. We don't get hung up on style, but are driven by the pursuit of Christ.
We are a church focused on taking the Gospel to the four corners of the world, including our own cities. We are committed to share the life-changing message of Christ to the fullest extent possible.
STATEMENT OF FAITH
-
THE HOLY TRINITYThe one God exists eternally in three persons- Father, Son and Holy Spirit-and has so revealed himself to us in Scripture.
-
THE LORD JESUS CHRISTOur Lord Jesus Christ, God incarnate and fully human, is the only mediator between God and man by reason of his birth by the Virgin Mary, his sinless life, atoning death, bodily resurrection, glorious ascension and triumphant reign.
-
THE HOLY SCRIPTURESThe canonical books of the Old and New Testaments are trustworthy as "God's Word written." They sufficiently teach God's will for his world, and have supreme authority for faith, life, and the continuous renewal and reform of the Church. They are inspired, infallible, and contain all things necessary for salvation.
-
JUSTIFICATION & SANCTIFICATIONRepenting and believing sinners are (i) justified through faith alone by God's gracious act of declaring us righteous on the ground of the reconciling death of Christ, who suffered in our place and triumphed over death through his bodily resurrection; and (ii) sanctified by the gracious, continuing activity of the Holy Spirit who perfects our repentance, nurtures his new life implanted within us, transforms us into Christ's image, and enables us to do good works in the world. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. Salvation is by grace alone and not earned through works, church membership or church ceremonies.
-
THE CHRISTIAN CHURCHThe Church is the Body of Christ. Its members belong to Christ's new humanity and are called and sent to live in the world in the power of the Spirit, worshipping God, confessing his truth, proclaiming the Good News of Christ, supporting one another in love, and giving themselves in sacrificial service to others, especially those in need. Its great mission is to make disciples of all nations and peoples.
-
SPIRITUAL GIFTS & CHRISTIAN MINISTRYAll Christians are called to exercise their God-given gifts to work, witness and suffer for Christ. All believers are priests and ministers. Priests, in that each believer has a direct relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ without the need for any human mediator. Ministers, in that each believer should share in the ministry of the church and share God’s love in the world. In addition, there is a particular call of pastors and elders to preach, teach and provide leadership and pastoral care, equipping God's people for his service and presenting them mature in Christ.
-
THE GOSPEL SACRAMENTSThe sacraments of baptism and the Lord's Supper are outward and visible signs of inward and spiritual grace given to us and ordained by Christ.
-
BAPTISMBaptism is a public profession of faith by believers after the age of accountability through which they symbolize their death, burial and resurrection with Christ. Infant dedication is an important church ceremony that confirms the godly intent of the parents to raise their children “in the fear and admonition of the Lord.”
-
COMMUNIONThe Lord’s supper is a sign of the love and fellowship that Christians ought to have among themselves one to another. It is also a symbolic remembrance of our redemption through the broken body of Christ, the bread of heaven, and the shed blood of Christ, the cup of salvation. It should be observed faithfully, prayerfully and with great reverence.
-
THE RETURN OF CHRISTOur Lord Jesus Christ will personally return in glory at the end of this age when all will face judgment-some to eternal life and some to everlasting condemnation. It will be for the glorification of his Church and for the renewal of the whole of creation.
-
UNIQUENESS OF JESUS CHRISTWhile religions and philosophies of the world are not without elements of the truth, Jesus Christ alone is the full revelation of God, who through the Gospel judges and corrects all views and doctrines. All persons everywhere need to learn of him, come to know and believe in him, and receive forgiveness and new life in him as there is no other name given under heaven by which we must be saved.
THE NICENE CREED
We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
THE APOSTLES' CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.
